DAMAGED HISTORIC HOME & STRUCTURE NEEDS RENOVATIONS ~ Now What?

DAMAGED HISTORIC HOME & STRUCTURE NEEDS RENOVATIONS ~ Now What?

Built in 1836, the old homestead has been restored three times and each time the owners have maintained the integrity of the initial hand-craft builders. One-hundred seventy-seven years later storms and mature falling trees have inflicted terrible damage to the chimney, cornices and roof of this stately old home and out buildings. Is functional replacement the answer, or is complete and authentic restoration important to you?

What should your insurance company pay for? Repairs? Replacements? Authenticity? What about the cost of old-world craftsmanship needed to restore the home to the high standard that has been maintained from the beginning. The answer is, that it entirely depends on your insurance policy.

We are more than happy to review your insurance policies with you to ensure that your expectation of coverage is realized and exposure is minimized. The time to determine proper insurance values is before disaster strikes. Because we work only for you, we want to make sure that you are completely covered prior to an event.

Reading a policy after the damage will confirm several things for the owner, that they are or are not covered, and that if they are covered, they are going to be much more successful pursuing a claim that if they are uninsured or underinsured.

If a structure has "substantial" damage - how much damage would that be? Again, it depends on how the structure was originally built, materials used, workmanship, and date of construction and wear over time.

Often old pine floors buckle due to water damage, shingles and shakes are blown off or damaged beyond usefulness. Water finds its way along walls and joists, through plaster and lath. Artisan plasterwork, ornate trim work, how do the insurance companies assess the damage to artistry like that? Not very well.

Working with an experienced Licensed Public Adjuster is wise, and much better if your adjuster has extensive contracting experience. Jeff Wagner is both of these and can recognize the subtle changes in walls and surfaces indicating more trouble and the best solutions for restoring the integrity of a finely built structure. Did you know that there are NO FEES unless the public adjuster gets your claims paid?

If your property has suffered from winter weather or storm-related damages, call or email Jeff Wagner, Licensed Public Adjuster 267-265-5137.

Working for you every step of the way!
