Local Home Care Company Offers Community Caregiving Tips for Parkinson's Patients

Walnutport, PA 4/08/14 - The Parkinson's Disease Foundation estimates that there are nearly one million people living with Parkinson's in the United States. In light of April being National Parkinson's Awareness Month, Home Helpers of Northern Lehigh Valley is educating the local community on tips for families who are providing care for a loved one with Parkinson's disease.

• Have Back Up - No matter how much you want to be, you are not superman or superwoman and cannot be there all the time to provide care. Train a few family members who you trust to serve as your backup so that you can move forward with daily responsibilities without worrying or enlist the services of Home Helpers to help with your loved one a few hours a week.
• Keep a Journal - Having a loved one with Parkinson's requires a lot of time and effort. Paying attention to how they are doing each day is very important. Pay attention to any new symptoms and write them down in a journal to take with you to the next doctor visit. This could be something significant to the doctor who may be able to help by changing medication or offering up some other alternatives to help.
