How to Care for Your Vinyl Banner

At Leading Edge Signs & Imaging, we make custom vinyl banners for Bethlehem and Lehigh Valley commercial businesses. Banners are among the least expensive ways to advertise your business. Whether you hang them on an interior or exterior wall, or buy a bigger one to hang across the street (check with local ordinances before you do that!), most businesses will want to reuse their banners. If you want to do that, here are some simple guidelines for taking care of a banner:

  • There are two basic types of banners- digitally printed on vinyl banner material and "cut vinyl" letters that are adhered to the vinyl banner. At Leading Edge Signs, we offer both. Make sure you know which you have, because storing them after use is different for each!
  • Before you go any further, decide if the banner needs to be cleaned. Don't roll up a dirty banner! Use a mild detergent in water with a sponge, rubbing lightly in a circular motion. Rinse with water, but don't use high pressure. Always make sure the banner is completely dry before you roll it up!
  • If you have a digitally printed banner (and 90%+ are printed these days), the banner should be rolled up with the print on the inside of the banner, so you only see the back (white) side. This protects the printed surface.
  • If yours is a cut vinyl banner, the text will feel raised. That means the graphic image was pre-cut and attached to the plain banner material. Roll this banner up with the graphic on the outside of the banner.
  • After you have rolled up the banner, it is best to store it in a tube until you're ready to use it again.
  • Store the banner at room temperature, or close to it.
  • NEVER fold a banner-the creases will not come out.

So those are the basics for caring for your banner. Come and see us when you need a new banner, and come when you need ANY commercial sign, because at Leading Edge Signs we make them all- lobby signs, building signs, bronze and other metal plaques, dimensional letter signs, car and truck wraps and graphics, and interior digital signs.
