In a social service that cannot just reheat leftovers, Meals on Wheels of Northampton County offers a fresh take on its ingredients, programs and its brand to improve services to the community.
"Many know us for our dedicated volunteers who deliver nutritious meals to elderly clients during the week, but we have evolved into a broader organization," says Executive Director JoAnn Bergeron Nenow. "Our new logo has been modernized to accurately portray the range of services and clients who we serve." In 2014 it is estimated that Meals on Wheels of Northampton County will serve 1,283 clients in Northampton County with 1,100 volunteers and prepare 475,000 meals for clients in Northampton County, Senior Centers in Lehigh County, and Meals On Wheels programs in Monroe and Lehigh Counties.
Meals on Wheels of Northampton County continues to home deliver hot and cold meals to the community but has recently added progressive services like its Better Fresh program to use local produce in meals, Ani-meals that delivers pet food for clients, grocery shopping services for the home bound, and group dining services for both senior and child care facilities and other Meals On Wheels organizations.
The new and improved services reflect the spirit with which the Meals On Wheels board created its new 3-year strategic plan - to meet the needs of clients with expanded services and provide a diversified services plan that mitigates the need for government funding amidst increasing budget cuts. "Our new services not only make clients happy but makes us a stronger organization by providing additional revenue to ensure that we can deliver home meals to the community in the long term," says Nenow.
