Three Fun Family Games to Play at the Pool

Having a backyard can be lots of fun, but sometimes the children can get bored with the same old toys or routine. Below are three great games to get everyone involved and having fun:

1. "Sharks and Minnows" or "Gator". This game works best with 4 or more players. Have one person designated as the "gator" or "shark". That player treads water in the deep end of the pool while all other participants stand on the side of the pool or hang on to the pool wall from inside the pool. The gator or shark will yell gator and all other participants have 30 seconds to swim successfully to the other side of the pool with out getting tagged but the gator/shark. Anyone tagged by the gator/shark with become a gator/shark and help in tagging other players as the game repeats.

2. Play Water Frisbee - All you need is a Frisbee and two small plastic laundry baskets. This can be played as single team or group team of players. Similar to basketball, the goal is to see who can get the most 'in' to the baskets, so have another family member or friend call out and keep score.

3. Watermelon Relays - Not just refreshing to eat, these melons float like a boat across the pool. Simply place a whole, uncut watermelon into the pool. The first person to push the watermelon across, using only their head, to the far end of the pool wins!
