Summer Reading Is A Priority And Can Be Fun!

News Details

The summer months are a wonderful time for children to develop a true love for books and reading.  Tutoring Club has two initiatives to stimulate reading this summer.  The staff of Tutoring Club is distributing a Summer Reading List for various grades so children and parents can plan their summer reading program.  They are also sponsoring a Summer Reading Contest for their students.

The Summer Reading Lists are for kindergarten through grade 3, grades 4 and 5, grades 6 to 8 and grades 9 through 12.  “We find that children will read what interests them.  It may be easy or hard to read but it cannot be boring!” declared Mike Lynch, Director at the Tutoring Club in Flemington.  Each list has a variety of categories so children can sample each and decide what they like best.  The lists were assembled by the librarians from the Boston Public Library and the Boston Public Schools.  Copies are available at business throughout Flemington and at the Tutoring Club.

The Tutoring Club is also sponsoring a Summer Reading Contest for their students.  For each book read, participants move a balloon sticker with their name on a path around the world.  For each book they read they earn points toward prizes.  This year’s theme is “Around the World in 80 Days”

“Students look forward to the reading contest each summer.” explained Harvey Lifton, Director at the Tutoring Club.  “It is exciting to see children who only read what they have to read during the school year dive into books just because they are fun,” he continued.
